So, last night was the Emmis Xmas party, which includes all staff and significant others from Hot 97, Kiss FM and CD101.9. What a mix! I brought as my ‘date,’ Matt Marshak, who if you’ll remember had a song being played on CD101.9 called Wind Chill Factor. He’s got a new cd out, and it’s hot… and he’s so cute! Adorable. It was good for him to be at the party, because he got to meet other on-air talents that will now be able to put his face to the music, the next time he gets a spin…Blake.
The DJ at the party was awesome! Couldn’t hear ourselves think, let alone what anyone else was saying… but the music was so good, that it didn’t matter! I got to see friends that I normally don’t have the opportunity to see, working mostly on the weekends and filling in, so that was worth it to me. Billy Robinson, whom I’ve know pre-kids, and ropes me into buying Girl Scout Cookies every year! And yes, they’re through his child…not him. LOL! Mark Farrel who I knew when he was an intern at WAPP! One night I let him run the board without letting the PD know. He was so excited, and I was a nervous wreck! I think he got bit by the radio bug that night. Look at him today. Maybe I helped?? Haha! Carolyn Bednarski and her twin. To look at them, you would have sworn they were sisters. Bill Zafiros, always good to see Bill, fun talking about music with him, even when you can’t hear. But you can always pick up on his passion. Linda Bruno and her ‘hottie’ date, looks serious… Jeffrey Thacker came up to me and gave me a huge hug, and I didn’t even know who the hell he was until today, when I sent him my blog to upload! I told him I was upset that I hadn’t seen him, and he said, “uh Robin? That was me with the dreadlocks that hugged you last night.” What! I haven’t seen him in… forever! Paul Cavalconte and his friend from WOR, talk about the gift of the gab…doesn’t Paul HAVE that?? Jesus, he can spin dirty words into gold. Jesse Mead, somehow even with only a half a glass of wine, still looks younger every time I see him.. I need to ask him about that. Jerald, our board op, musician, another WOR guy, was sporting a ‘smokin’ jacket!
Those that I had been looking forward to seeing, that couldn’t make it were Blake Lawrence who was home nursing a cold and maybe a martini. My mom always told me alcohol fixes everything… but I think she was talking about rubbing alcohol, still not sure! And I missed seeing Meryl Kubrik who got stuck in the snow up north, but she’s someone I can talk to forever, so maybe it’s better she wasn’t there! I never would have talked to the rest!
And for the record!!!! YES. I took a nasty fall at this party. But, and let me stress the word BUT. It was not alcohol related, and the way I know this is, I got up from sitting in the booth in the food area, forgot there was a step down, had my first glass of wine in my hand, fell, broke the bottom of the glass, … but didn’t spill a drop of wine!!! You need coordination to do that! Hahahaha!
I’m feeling the bruises today though, but it’s good pain. Like after a work out!
All in all, the party was fun, and I thank you all for letting me be a part of your family.
